Class of 2015-2016 NYSPA Leadership Institute Fellows
Fellows from 2015-2016 included Dr. Jessica Costosa-Umina from Syracuse, and Drs. Vivi Hua and Jessica Koblenz from the New York City area, and Dr. Daniel Antonius from Buffalo.
The mentors for the Leadership Institute this past year include Co-Chairs Dr. Chris Allen and Dr. Lori Wagner-Naughton, plus Dr. Jerry Grodin, Dr. Mark Grey and Dr. Alexis Khan (who was in the first Leadership Institute class).
The Leadership Institute runs from September to June, culminating in the presentation of their class project and graduation at the NYSPA Convention each June. The fellowship class chooses a project that is of interest to them and will benefit the organization— this year they have chosen a project in integrated healthcare.
The fellows also have opportunities for one-to-one mentorship and for leadership development at leadership retreats held in NYC and in Albany. They participate in monthly conference calls, monthly “virtual happy hours” with discussions/presentations on topics related to leadership, and team building exercises. Fellows also attend some Council meetings, Lobby Day, grassroots training, and begin to pursue leadership activities in NYSPA Divisions, Regions, Committees and special-interest Task Forces.
At the end of the fellowship year, all fellows join the Leadership Institute Alumni network, which had its first face-to-face event in New York City in April.
The Leadership Institute provides a wonderful opportunity for psychologists! If you are in your early to mid-career and would like to learn more, please contact Dee Fisher-Golden, NYSPA’s Interim Executive Director at email@example.com or 518-437-1040.
